Dear Mrs

Thank you for your letter which I received this morning and have shared with (校長). We have discussed it and understand your concerns over the matter and would like to apologise for the upset this has caused.

Our Welfare Officer Kate is trained in her role and has regular first aid training along with other staff. She does have many years’ experience and is very good at spotting when a child is sick and should be sent home or not. However in this case, this doesn’t appear to have happened.

I have spoken to her about it and the procedure that was followed and as a result I am looking to formalise some of our procedures more clearly in terms of taking and recording temperatures. We do take the health and well-being of the children extremely seriously and everyone who comes in is treated as an individual with their symptoms dealt with. As you can imagine, children come in with a variety of ailments from grazed knees to feeling sick, therefore we treat them based on what they need. However, viruses do go around the school and I think it is critical that we check and record temperatures as a matter of course, even if we don’t think the child has one. We will also ensure that if need be, it is checked again later in the day. Children’s temperatures can go up and down quickly and it is still possible that a child could have a fever at the end of the day, even though we have checked them at say 2pm. However hopefully you would feel more assured, knowing that we had checked it.

I hope this helps to answer your concerns and I would like to apologise again that this happened.

If you would like to discuss this in more detail, then please let me know and we can arrange to meet.

Kind regards,
